Warwick, NY – On Saturday, Feb. 15, Warwick Pack 177 cub scouts received their Arrow of Light awards at Mountain Lake Park, a time-honored tradition where Webelos Scouts cross over to become Boy Scouts. This milestone event marks the culmination of their Cub Scouting journey and prepares them for advancement into Boy Scout Troops 38 and 45.

The Arrow of Light Award, the highest honor a Cub Scout can achieve, was presented in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and community leaders, including Warwick Town Supervisor Jesse Dwyer, who commended the scouts on their dedication and achievements.

“This ceremony is an important step in scouting,” said Supervisor Dwyer. “Over the years I’ve participated in scout activities, I have seen these young individuals grow and mature. The skills and values these young scouts have learned will serve them well in their futures. Scouting instills a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities that will help them succeed in whatever path they choose.”

Transition to Boy Scouts

Webelos Scouts, consisting of 4th and 5th graders, serve as a transitional phase between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. The program emphasizes leadership, personal responsibility, and skill-building to prepare them for their next adventure. They continue as members of their Cub Pack under the Cubmaster’s guidance but operate as a specialized den with more advanced activities. Webelos Scouts participate in Boy Scout meetings, plan their own activities, complete required and elective adventures, and develop leadership skills. Their meetings are typically held in the evenings or on Saturdays. The name Webelos stands for “WE’ll BE LOyal Scouts,” reflecting their commitment to scouting values.
