Did you know according to Britannica “Valentine’s Day is when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts”, a day set aside for lovers? It has since been expanded to include relatives and friends. Remember being in elementary school and handing out valentines to each other? Yet, there is no mention on the books about being valentines with your pet. But, there should be because our relationship with our pets is one of mutual adoration and affection, or in other words LOVE. And isn’t Valentine’s Day all about the “love”. The big difference is that our pets do not expect diamonds from Zales or flowers or chocolates in heart shaped boxes, although like every day, treats are appreciated and enjoyed. No romantic dinners are needed but cuddles are.

ant presence in our lives that makes us happy and who loves us no matter our mood or appearance, it’s our pet, or i
n some homes, our pets.
Where expressions of love do not rely on words or cards, but the actions of a wagging tail, head bumps and the look of love in their eyes.
I am not saying that diamonds, flowers and especially chocolates are not welcome from the human lover in our lives on Valentine’s Day.
It’s just that there are other sweethearts to be recognized on this day and every day as a matter of fact. There are over 175 such sweethearts without someone to love or be loved by at the shelter. Dogs, cats, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils and chickens waiting for Cupid’s arrow to find them each that special someone. The adoption process is truly not that hard if you just consider that we are seeking a loving, lasting home in the best interest of the pet and the adopting family in order to make that love match. A love that will last a lifetime as each pet will be held in our hearts beyond their passing.
February is celebrated as the month of romance. “The road to my heart is paved with paw prints.”- Unknown Is yours?
There’s a special furry someone waiting to meet you. It might even be love at first sight. Can’t get more romantic than that. Happy Valentine’s Day! Adopt the next love of your life!
