A Column from the Desk of Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark)
As I step into my new role as chairman of the Assembly Minority Conference’s Committee on Standing Committees, I’m filled with a deep sense of responsibility and determination. This upcoming legislative session my focus will remain clear: protect and enhance our public safety, help decrease the cost of living, and help New Yorkers who are struggling to make ends meet I’ve been honored to serve as your assemblyman for parts of Orange and Rockland counties, and throughout my tenure, I’ve seen the challenges that families and small businesses face from the majority in Albany. Whether it’s their quest to fuel their spending by raising our taxes, our escalating utility bills or the difficulty of affording basic childcare, I know these issues hit home for all of us. That’s why, as I take on this new leadership position, my mission remains simple—work hard to ensure Albany listens to the real concern of New Yorkers and takes real action on the issues that matter most. The promotion to chairman of the Committee on Standing Committees is both an honor and a challenge I take seriously. This role gives me the responsibility to help shape the direction of our conference and the overall legislative agenda. I will be working alongside my colleagues to ensure our voice is heard on the floor of the Assembly and that the policies we champion reflect our listening to the real needs of New Yorkers. Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Ways and Means and Rules committees, where I was able to work on the state’s fiscal policies and ensure there was accountability in how taxpayer money is spent. With the financial pressures New Yorkers face daily, I’ve always been a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and transparency in government. The people of this state deserve a government that is efficient, effective and puts their interests first. That means reducing the cost of government, lowering taxes and making sure the dollars we do spend are used wisely. As I take on this leadership role, I’m committed to making affordability the centerpiece of our legislative agenda. The high cost of living is one of the most pressing issues facing families in our state, and it’s time for us to tackle it head-on. Whether it’s advocating for tax cuts, fighting against unnecessary regulations that drive up costs or working to make New York a more business-friendly state, my focus will be on delivering results that benefit the everyday New Yorkers who are struggling the most. As we head into the new year, I look forward to working with my colleagues to create solutions that help New Yorkers thrive. I’m deeply honored to serve in this new capacity, and I am more determined than ever to fight for the policies that will make life more affordable for everyone in our great state. This session, we have the opportunity to make a difference. Together, we will tackle the tough issues facing our state and continue the fight for a better, more affordable New York.Assemblyman Brabenec represents the 98th District, which includes the city of Port Jervis, the towns of Deerpark, Greenville, Mount Hope, Wawayanda, Minisink, Warwick, Tuxedo and portions of the towns of Goshen, Monroe and Ramapo.
