Ryan: “Congress should be focused on lowering costs for the American people, not giving ourselves a raise”

WASHINGTON, DC  –  Today, Congressman Pat Ryan pledged to vote against the upcoming government funding bill due to its inclusion of a pay raise for Members of Congress.. This legislation, released last night, was introduced without any debate and without allowing any amendments. Members of Congress currently earn $174,000 annually — more than 90 percent of Americans. If enacted, this continuing resolution would allow for a 2025 adjustment of 3.8 percent, resulting in a Member salary increase of $6,600.

“I cannot and will not vote to give myself more money when my constituents are feeling unbelievable financial pressure,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “Congress should be focused on lowering costs for the American people, not giving ourselves a raise. If this provision isn’t removed, I will be voting against the continuing resolution.”
