WARWICK, N.Y. – Judge Karen Amundson, an attorney and sitting Town of Warwick Justice, formally announced her candidacy for Orange County Court Judge during the October 2024 meeting of the Warwick Republican Committee. With a distinguished legal career spanning 24 years in Orange County, Amundson’s candidacy underscores her unmatched experience as a prosecutor, defender, and judge.
“Serving Orange County as a County Court Judge would be a profound privilege. My 24 years of practicing criminal law and my experience on the bench have strengthened my dedication to fairness, integrity, and the community I proudly call home,” said Amundson.
Amundson began her legal career in 2000 as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, where she served for seven years. She then joined the Orange County Legal Aid Society as a public defender, continuing her commitment to ensuring justice for all. In private practice, she represented defendants in Orange County and local criminal courts through her Warwick-based law office. Currently, she serves as an Assistant County Attorney at the Orange County Attorney’s Office and shares her expertise as an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice Department at Orange County Community College.
A graduate of Binghamton University and Pace Law School, Amundson has dedicated her entire career to criminal law in Orange County, a distinction that makes her uniquely qualified for the County Court bench. Her dual experience as a prosecutor and defender provides her with a comprehensive perspective on justice.
Since being elected Warwick Town Justice, Amundson has presided over more than 125 arraignments in the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) and successfully overseen a jury trial. Her judicial record reflects a steadfast commitment to respect, fairness, and ensuring everyone has their day in court. After running a successful campaign for her current position, she is well-prepared for the November 2025 election, where two County Court Judge seats will be contested.
