Woodbury Historical Society Recently Awarded as Top 20 Best Podcasts!

The Woodbury Historical Society’s podcast, “A Walk Through Woodbury,” was recently selected and honored by Feedspot as one of the Top 20 Local History podcasts on the web. “This was a great honor to achieve such recognition,” explains Alex Prizgintas, who serves as president of the organization. Along with his partner and father, they have been producing episodes that feature different aspects of Woodbury’s interesting and sometimes complicated history. “We began working on these during the pandemic and, along the way, have picked up a great following of curious listeners.” When asked what was his secret to making a successful podcast, Alex responded by saying, “Good topics, interesting voices with stories to share, and most importantly, developing context and texture through sound effects, music, and dialogue that moves the topic continually forward. You don’t want 20 minutes of one voice going on endlessly about interesting stuff because no one will listen. You need various colors of voices, music, and sound effects that guide and cradle the subject matter carefully while creating visual pictures—pictures that tell a unique and engaging story. In effect, you want the listener to feel that they are eavesdropping on your conversation.”

To listen to any of the current 6 episodes on air (with more in production), you can access them by going on Woodbury Historical Society’s webpage ( woodburyhistoricalsociety.org ). Simply scroll down the menu on the left and “click” “podcast”. These episodes are also becoming available on Apple Podcasts under “A Walk Through Woodbury.” Pour a cup of coffee and settle down for some fun, local stories!

Back in 2020 and 2021, Woodbury Historical Society president Alex Prizgintas had the honor of interviewing Walter Stanfield on several occasions, a resident of over 90 years in Highland Mills. Though Walt is sadly no longer with us, his memories are forever preserved on many of “A Walk Through Woodbury’s” six episodes.
