Former State Senator and co-owner of Masker Orchards, Mike Martucci, will join other dignitaries as a guest bartender at an event to support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18th at Yesterday’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Warwick. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who died while saving others on September 11, 2001. For more than 20 years, the Foundation has supported the nation’s first responders, veterans, and their families by providing these heroes and the families they leave behind with mortgage-free homes. To date, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has committed $250 million to the families of the fallen and injured. “Since 9/11, the Foundation has performed incredible work honoring the sacrifice of our brave first responders by supporting the families that they leave behind,” Martucci said. “I am proud to participate in the event which will provide another opportunity to showcase a wonderful cause while ensuring that we never forget what happened to this nation on 9/11.” On 9/11, Siller had completed his shift with Brooklyn Squad 1 when he heard news of an airplane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Siller returned to Squad 1 to gather his gear and drove to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, only to find it had been closed. With his 60 pounds of gear in tow, Siller ran from the tunnel to the Twin Towers where he lost his life. He was 34 years old and left behind his wife and five children.
