Police Probe Mystery of Car Discovered Submerged in Lake

Police and Fire

VILLAGE OF FLORIDA – Emergency crews were dispatched to an area of Glenmere Lake on Monday afternoon for a reported ‘sinking vehicle’ in the lake. The incident was reported just before 1 p.m., September 9, and kept crews on scene throughout the afternoon.

It was not initially known if any individuals were in the vehicle, and as of Monday evening nothing further was released as to whether the car had been occupied or how it ended up in the water.

With the vehicle reported by officials to be about 25-feet from shore, divers and others on shore investigated prior to the vehicle being pulled from the water.  The vehicle was reported to be unoccupied as divers investigated while it was in the water, and others continued the investigation once it was back on shore.

According to State Police, they responded to Glenmere Lake in the Village of Florida for a reported vehicle in the lake. The State Police Underwater Recovery Team and Forensics Identification Unit were on scene during the afternoon, along with the Village of Florida Battalion Dive Teams and other fire departments and dive teams from across Orange County.

Gates to the area were closed to the public and caution tape was placed around the scene throughout the afternoon. The Village of Florida has announced that Glenmere Park will remain temporarily closed as the investigation continues.
