DA Hoovler: 8 Year Prison Sentence in Woodbury Drug Case

Orange County

Julio Lewis Previously Pled Guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Julio Lewis, age 34, of Schenectady, was sentenced to eight (8) years in prison to be followed by three (3) years of post-release supervision in connection with his previous guilty plea in Orange County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, on January 8, 2024, members of the New York State Police stopped Lewis’s car on the New York State Thruway for various traffic violations.  During the traffic stop, Troopers observed in plain view on the floor of the vehicle approximately 186 grams of cocaine.  Lewis admitted to the police that the drugs were his.  At the plea proceedings, Lewis admitted to possessing over a half ounce of cocaine.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the New York State Police for their investigation which led to the arrest of Lewis.

“It is through proactive policing and the dedication of career prosecutors that we are able to disrupt the flow of dangerous narcotics into Orange County,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Let this case, like the many others that have come before, stand as a warning to drug dealers: your criminal business is not welcome here and you will be held accountable for your actions.  We will continue to focus on dismantling the narcotics trade that endangers our community.”

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Richard Giordano.

This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
