American athletes continue to show remarkable results at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning 79 medals, including 21 gold, 30 silver, and 28 bronze. Let’s look at the most significant achievements and records set over the past 12 days of competition.

Swimming

  • Katie Ledecky set a new Olympic record in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 15:30.02. This happened on July 31, 2024, at the Paris La Défense Arena.
  • Kate Douglass won a gold medal in the women’s 200-meter individual medley final on August 3, 2024, with her performance at the Paris La Défense Arena, finishing with a time of 2:08.91.
  • Torri Huske also contributed to the USA’s medal tally, competing in the women’s 100-meter freestyle final on July 31 and the mixed 4×100 meter medley relay on August 3.
  • In the women’s 4×100 meter medley relay, the USA team, consisting of Regan Smith, Lilly King, Gretchen Walsh, and Torri Huske, set a new world record with a time of 3:49.63 on August 4, 2024, in Paris.

Simone Biles once again proved her legendary status by winning medals in various disciplines:

– Team final on July 30.

– All-around final on August 1.

– Vault final on August 3.

– Uneven bars final on August 4.

– Balance beam final on August 5.

– Floor exercise final on August 5.

Shooting

  • Vincent Hancock demonstrated his high level of skill in shooting, winning the men’s skeet event on August 3 and taking silver in the mixed team event on August 5.

Cycling

  • Kristen Faulkner won a gold medal in the women’s road race.

Track and Field

  • Noah Lyles won the gold medal in the men’s 100 meters.
  • Ryan Crouser won the men’s shot put event.
  • Valarie Allman won gold in the women’s discus throw.

Rowing

Basketball

  • The USA men’s basketball team had no trouble defeating all their opponents in Group C at the Paris Olympics. They crushed Serbia 110-84 on July 28, defeated South Sudan 103-86 on July 31, and overcame Puerto Rico 104-83 on August 3. On August 7, the team will play in the quarterfinals against Brazil.
  • The USA women’s basketball team also demonstrated their strength in Group C, beating Japan 102-76 on July 29, Belgium 87-74 on August 1, and Germany 87-68 on August 4. In the quarterfinals on August 7, the USA women’s team will face Nigeria.

Soccer

  • The USA women’s soccer team confidently advanced through the group stage at the Paris 2024 Olympics, defeating Zambia 3-0, Germany 4-1, and Australia 2-1. In the quarterfinals, they edged past Japan with a 1-0 victory. The next challenge for the American women is a semifinal match against Germany, which is taking place as this article is being written.
