Local businesses are the bridge between our communities and residents. We all have our favorite neighborhood spots, where a familiar face always greets us with a smile. These small gems represent our communities’ deep-rooted spirit of grit, passion, and perseverance as they provide needed services and goods. Utilizing our district’s greatest strengths, local businesses have overcome difficulties and faced many obstacles and challenges, especially in these last
post-pandemic years. Regardless of whether you own a new business or a historic one, it’s paramount we all find ways to support our local businesses.
Through the New York State’s Historic Business Preservation Registry (HBPR), established in 2020, businesses that have been in operation for 50 or more years can gain recognition for their impact on our county and the families residing within it.
All nominations must be sponsored by a state elected official – my office has previously nominated Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville and The Captain’s Table in Monroe! If your business meets the necessary qualifications and would like to be included in the registry, please reach out to my office. We need small businesses now more than ever, and can’t wait to hear about yours.
For more information about the qualifications, visit the NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation website.
