FIGHTING FOR FAIR EDUCATION FUNDING

Politics

A Column from the Desk of Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark)

As your Assemblyman, I’m committed to ensuring every child in the 98th Assembly District receives a high-quality education. This is why I’m fighting for the East Ramapo Central School District to receive the additional funding it desperately needs. East Ramapo faces a severe funding crisis. Essential programs and services have been cut, and students are not receiving the resources they need to succeed. This situation is unacceptable. The root of the problem lies in the unique demographics of the district. While serving a large population of private school students, the public schools bear the financial burden of providing services such as transportation and special education to these students. This dual responsibility strains their budget, leaving public school students without adequate support. This is about fairness and opportunity. Every child, regardless of their background, deserves access to quality education. The current state funding model for education fails our public school students, and we must correct this imbalance. That’s why Senator Bill Weber and I are sponsoring legislation to address these disparities by providing additional state aid to the East Ramapo Central School District. This solution would help bridge the funding gap and ensure all students receive the support they need. I hear your concerns about the state of our schools and I stand with you. This fight is about more than money; it’s about securing a better future for the children of the 98th Assembly District. But this is a fight we must undertake together. I urge all community members to support this critical legislation. Reach out to your state representatives, attend school board meetings, and make your voices heard. Together, we can ensure the East Ramapo Central School District and all of the schools in the 98th Assembly District receive the funding they deserve.
