Calling all Orange County Veterans: Don’t Miss This Exclusive Movie Event

Orange County

Free showings of Greyhound starring Tom Hanks set for Aug. 28th

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Veterans Service Agency (VSA) Director Christian Farrell will have two free showings for veterans of the 2020 Apple TV+ Film Greyhound, starring Tom Hanks. The showings will be at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28th, at Flagship Premium Cinemas, located at 34 Millpond Parkway in Monroe.

“Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus has made it a priority to take care of our veterans,” said Farrell. “One way he has done this over the years has been by hosting events like this. We encourage our vets to spend quality time with one another, it is so valuable. These movie offerings have been successful in the past, and we look forward to a great turnout again on Aug. 28th.”

Greyhound, based on the 1955 novel “The Good Shepherd” by C.S. Forester, inspired by actual events, tells the story of the World War II Battle of the Atlantic, which was a six-year fight for control over the ocean. Several months after the U.S. entry into WWII, newly promoted U.S. Navy Commander Ernest Krause, played by Hanks, must lead his first transatlantic convoy. Krause must protect his fleet from Nazi U-boats through a section of water known as the “Black Pit.” In true cinematic fashion, the captain ultimately battles not only a military enemy but his own personal demons.

“I am looking forward to seeing and spending time with my fellow veterans as we watch this movie that details the bravery of the men and women who served during this dangerous part of World War II,” said Neuhaus. “Events like these movie showings help veterans find resources, meet friends, and connect with others who understand their experiences. I look forward to doing more of these types of events in the future.”

A free ticket to Greyhound for a veteran and a guest, which includes free popcorn and a drink, can be reserved by contacting the Orange County Veterans Service Agency at 845-291-2470.
