A Siena College research poll released this week revealed Governor Kathy Hochul and President Joe Biden’s favorability ratings among New York state voters are at their lowest point during their time in office. According to the poll, Hochul has a favorability rating of 38 percent while 49 percent view her unfavorably. In addition, Hochul’s job approval rating is at its lowest, 44-50 percent. Meanwhile, President Biden has a 42-53 percent favorability rating among New York voters, down from 45-50 percent in May, his lowest favorability rating ever. “Despite strongly supporting Hochul’s decision to put congestion pricing on hold, and even more strongly supporting the social media bill she championed, voters now give Hochul the lowest favorability and job approval ratings she’s had in nearly three years as Governor,” Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said. Among Democrats, Hochul continues to have a two-to-one favorability rating and an even stronger job approval rating. However, she’s viewed unfavorably by 81 percent of Republicans and 61 percent of independents, while 84 percent of Republicans and 63 percent of independents disapprove of her job as Governor. On four attributes, voters give Hochul lower grades now than in December 2022, when she had slightly positive favorability and job performance ratings. In the most dramatic example, a year and a half ago, voters said Hochul cared about people like them 45-37 percent. Now, they say she doesn’t, 44-34 percent, a net 18-point drop. The Siena Poll was conducted between June 12th and 17th and included 805 registered voters.
