July 4th Fireworks Safety

Police and Fire

As the July 4th celebration season approaches, it’s important to remember that fireworks can bring joy and excitement, but they also pose significant risks if not handled with caution. Fireworks safety should be a top priority for anyone planning to use them during festivities.

One of the key aspects of fireworks safety is purchasing them from reputable sellers and ensuring they are legal in your area. It’s crucial to follow all instructions on the packaging and never attempt to modify or create your own fireworks. Always have a responsible adult supervise the use of fireworks, especially when children are involved.

When lighting fireworks, choose a clear, open area away from buildings, trees, and other flammable objects. It’s vital to keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby in case of emergencies. Never point fireworks at people or animals, and always maintain a safe distance when igniting them. If a firework fails to go off, wait at least 20 minutes before approaching it and then soak it in water before disposing of it properly. Do not attempt to re-light a firework that does not go off.

Pets can become frightened by the loud noises and bright lights of fireworks, so it’s best to keep them indoors during displays to prevent them from becoming stressed or running away. Properly disposing of used fireworks by soaking them in water before discarding is essential to prevent any accidental fires.
