District Attorney Hoovler Receives Barbara Alvarez Humanitarian Award

Orange County

Award Issued by Wallkill Police Community Council

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler received the Barbara Alvarez Humanitarian Award from the Wallkill Police Community Council on Thursday, May 2, 2024.  The award is given annually to an individual who makes significant contributions to improve the quality of life of Wallkill citizens and fosters partnerships between law-enforcement in the community.  Barbara Alvarez was a founding member of the Wallkill Police Community Council.

The award was presented by Police Community Council President Brian Davis and Police Chief Robert Hertman for District Attorney Hoovler’s contributions to the Town especially in the area of mental health awareness and issues in policing and the criminal justice system.

“I am very thankful for the recognition by the Wallkill Community Police Council and look forward to working on the mental health crisis across Orange County,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “We must find a way to deal with individuals who are in mental health distress without arresting them unless absolutely necessary. Solving this issue remains a significant goal and I will continue to partner with law enforcement to solve this issue throughout our County.”

DA Hoovler with the Police Council, Council President Brian Davis, Chief Robert Hertman, Town Supervisor George Serrano, and Councilman Eric Valentin
