Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark) is frustrated that New York Democrats are refusing to allow his proposal for New York state to allocate adequate funding for BOCES educators and Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes in school districts statewide. Following a legislative battle that began with the governor proposing reductions in school aid, Brabenec considers the move to further withhold funding that could provide additional support to educators during a time of economic uncertainty a grave mistake. “We’ve got hardworking educators trying their best to provide guidance and opportunity to our kids looking to get in the trades, and the lack of support they are seeing from this state is shameful,” Brabenec said. “Our BOCES teachers have invaluable skills and insight, and during a time when we need their help to bolster the trades with engaged, enthusiastic students, I cannot for the life of me understand why this state feels no obligation to show them support. We’re setting ourselves up for failure by failing to invest in the people who keep our operations going, and that includes BOCES educators. I sincerely hope my colleagues will reconsider their position on this matter.” Assemblyman Brabenec represents the 98th District, which includes the city of Port Jervis, the towns of Deerpark, Greenville, Mount Hope, Wawayanda, Minisink, Warwick, Tuxedo and portions of the towns of Goshen, Monroe and Ramapo.
