We pray it never happens however in the event you are faced with the disappearance of your child what plan do you have in place to expedite their safe return. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office offers a free program for parents or guardians called OPERATION SAFE CHILD.
OPERATION SAFE CHILD provides parents with important child safety information by capturing fingerprints, basic biographical information, and photographs of children which is critical in assisting the safe return of a missing child. Members of the Sheriff’s Office can be seen at various public events offering this important service, which takes just a few moments to complete a couple of forms, enter your child’s fingerprints and secure their photo. A couple of minutes later you will be given an identification card that includes your child’s photo, pedigree information and fingerprint information. The card will allow essential missing child information to be used for dissemination to law enforcement within minutes and dramatically increase the possibility of bringing the missing child home. The SAFE CHILD card serves as an important tool when used in conjunction with the New York State AMBER Alert and Missing Child Alert programs.
Our program is offered on an individual basis or in groups. Parents wishing to make an appointment to receive a SAFE CHILD card for their children may contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office by email at ocnysheriff@orangecountygov.com or call 845-615-3904.
If your group or association would like to have this service provided at your next event you can locate more information and access our online request form at:
