On Saturday, March 16, as part of Greenwood Lake’s Centennial Celebration, the Greenwood Lake Theater held a re-enactment of the village of GWL’s historic voting day to become incorporated. It was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, where the original election took place 100 years ago, what was then known as the Parish House.

The production was called “I was There” and was an immersive setting where the actors engage the audience into the story. After the village incorporation vote, then votes were cast for the first mayor and village board members. The first mayor in 1924 was John Minturn and he was played by actor Jim Clifford.

The production was shown at four different times throughout the day, which also included a juggler. Director and co-writer Katie Weatherford from the GWL Theater helped coordinate the event along with the GWL Centennial Committee. Katie stated there were three stories that were acted out during each performance that included the cast, the centennial committee, and locals.

Music was provided by the Missyping Band. They sang and played a large variety of songs, including some 1920’s tunes, throughout the event on the lawn of the church.
