Local Teen Names International Product for CT Manufacturer

In a surprising turn of events, Warwick High School senior Jocelyne Sanchez has made a significant mark on the global stage. The 17-year-old, tech-savvy student recently won a business competition hosted by CT manufacturer Packaging And Crating Technologies (PACT), giving a catchy name to the company’s latest solution against lithium-ion battery fires.

Jocelyne’s winning entry, “On the Go Green Security,” caught the attention of PACT executives during a recent school presentation. The company, known for crafting recyclable and durable shipping containers, challenged students to name their innovative envelope product designed for the safe transport of devices containing lithium-ion batteries.

Rodger Mort, Chief Operating Officer at PACT, praised Jocelyne’s creativity, stating, “We received many creative submissions, but Jocelyne’s ‘On The Go Green Security’ summed up the product perfectly.”

On January 25, 2024 at Warwick Valley High School, Packaging And Crating Technologies (PACT) a global leader in manufacturing sustainable, packaging products for the transportation industry, presented Warwick student Jocelyne Sanchez with a $100 check for naming the company’s new product that controls lithium-ion battery fires.

Expressing her amazement, Jocelyne said, “I’m honored to be a part of PACT’s newest invention and the future vision of this company that really wants to make a difference in saving lives.”

PACT’s new product, On The Go Green Security, utilizes PACT Thermo ShieldTM, a patented lightweight paper that prevents thermal runaway in lithium-ion cells. The material, lined with a moisture vapor application, contains the dangerous fires caused by extreme temperatures, shaking, or puncturing.

Mort explained that PACT plans to market the new product to airports and airlines, addressing the safety concerns related to lithium-ion batteries during flights. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety reports 25,000 fires caused by lithium-ion batteries in the last five years, making PACT’s American-made solutions crucial for the safe transport and recycling of these batteries used in EVs, e-bikes, scooters, and handheld electronics.
