The 2024 legislative session has begun, and like the weather this week, it came fast and furious. As my colleagues and I move forward with our work and gear up to negotiate New York State’s annual budget, I remain laser-focused on finding solutions for residents of Orange County who are struggling with New York’s on-going affordability crisis. Focuses of mine include: housing affordability, inducing property tax relief; fighting for more money for Orange County schools; universal pre-l; infrastructure; reforming our broken system of economic development that feeds corporate welfare; supporting our law enforcement and all first responders; opposing MTA’s congestion pricing plan; and continuing to root out all corruption – both in Albany and here on our doorstep in Orange County.
There is a lot to look forward to this year, and a lot to do. Monday alone brought the passage of a package of bills through the Senate, including one I authored which ensures our voter rolls are accurate, up-to-date, and properly maintained in order to build better confidence in our election system.
Throughout my years in the Senate, I’ve never been a go-along-to-get-along type of legislature. Sometimes that ruffles feathers, often within my own party, but I will continue to do whatever it takes to be your effective voice here at home in Orange County, and in Albany. I will never forget who I’m fighting for.
