Last week was an article filled with several reasons why the Giants are finished this season and, seemingly, playing for a top draft pick at thi
s point. While that remains true, the question remains: are the Jets basically at that point too? One could argue no and one could argue yes. The argument for no is their defense is still loaded and could score points off turnovers and they need to clean up the mistakes. The easier answer would be yes. When you watch this team, you are not watching a playoff team. You are watching a Super Bowl-caliber defense and some foundational pieces on offense like Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. However, when you watch them all together, there seems to be no way this team is a playoff team. Reason #1 being, this may shock most if you have ever listened to my show on Saturday’s, their Head Coach Robert Saleh. The Jets are an undisciplined team. Ask any coach in America at any level, and the worst thing you could say about their team is they are soft or undisciplined. It should never be in question whether the team is disciplined or not. It should be evident by their play. That attribute or lack thereof falls on the head coach
and his staff. Reason #2: It looks like a wrap for the Jets is their offensive line and lack of consistency. Part of this issue is due to injury, which is totally understandable, but the other part is their inability to consistently play well. Defensive linemen have been running circles around these guys for too long. Lastly, reason #3 is Zach Wilson. I have watched fans on social media celebrate him for just not playing like the worst QB to ever live. Whether you love it or hate it, this is NY. The coddling and participation-trophy mindset do not work around here. Never have and never will.
You have to succeed in this town to earn some slack. The perception the last few weeks has been “well at least he isn’t turning the football over.” Sure. Fine. However, he’s not lighting up the scoreboard. He is not scoring touchdowns. The team is not scoring much at all. I
n fact, Greg Zuerlein has been the Jets best and most consistent player on the team this season. Jets fans, it is time to look in the mirror, take in multiple factors and figure out what has happened. In the last 2 weeks, they have lost their tiebreaker with the LA Chargers and Vegas Raiders who are vying for that 7th playoff spot. Their schedule is Buffalo, Miami, Atlanta, Houston, and Miami. The Houston Texans have come alive. There are no cupcake games moving forward.
