Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, and the Orange County Director of Veteran Affairs, Christian Farrell along with the Middletown and Washingtonville JROTC and the Nam Knights on November 7th at which time they all placed American flags on nearly 4,000 graves at the County’s Veterans Memorial Cemetery in honor of Veterans Day. Town of Goshen Supervisor Joe Betro and Police Chief James Post were also in attendance. “We were proud to host this important event, and owe our veterans our deepest respect and gratitude,” Neuhaus said. “I want to thank the Middletown and Washingtonville JROTC’s and the Nam Knights for their continued dedication to the interests of veterans and our community.” Veterans Day, which is on Saturday, November 11th, started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. That date, November 11th was the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to Veterans Day to account for all veterans of all wars. “Our veterans have made great sacrifices to ensure we have the freedoms that we enjoy in this country and Orange County is home to approximately 23,000 veterans and they deserve our respect and support every day, but especially on Veterans Day,” Neuhaus added. Thank you to all the brave men and women who served proudly to ensure our life of freedom in the greatest country in the world. Thank you Commander Neuhaus for your service! We salute you!
