Warwick varsity football team was holding onto a 7 – 6 lead late in the fourth quarter when Our Lady of Lourdes successfully completed the “Hook and Lateral” play on fourth down and long from their own 20-yard line. Warwick captain Johnny Accardo sprinted down the field and punched the ball out while securing the tackle on the Warwick 30-yard line while senior Connor Brogan recovered the loose ball to secure the Wildcat win over the defending Class A Champs.

Warwick improved to 5-3 on the season and 4-1 at C. Ashely Morgan Field. The Wildcats honored their senior football players and cheerleaders before the game.

Warwick’s offense was paced by senior quarterback Wils Siebert, who rushed for 60 yards on seven carries and completed eight of 15 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. Warwick junior Dylan Sullivan had three catches for 147 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Mazza and Latrell Willis contributed five catches for 66 yards.

Warwick’s defense was led by Jake Rooney (14 tackles), Anthony Marcano (eight tackles) and Johnny Accardo (seven tackles). Anthony Marcano, Latrell Willis and Jake Rooney each had a sack for the defense that shut down the vaunted Lourdes offense. Defensive lineman Charlie Phipps, Michael Hennessy, Michael Miller and Rashied Richardson were outstanding in the trenches.

Warwick will travel to Washingtonville for their final regular season game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.

Warwick’s boys soccer team played Goshen to a 2-2 tie on Oct. 16. James Unger and Simon Bastone scored goals for the Wildcats. Goalie Dylan Gjersten had 13 saves.

Warwick lost to Valley Central 4-1 on Oct. 18, with Symon Rolden getting the Wildcats’ goal.

GIRLS SOCCER


Johannah Bradley and Kat Finnerty each scored two goals to lead Warwick’s girls soccer team to a 4-3 overtime victory over Cornwall on Oct. 18. The Wildcats lost to Goshen 2-1 despite a goal by Sierra Blanton on Oct. 17. Valley Central shut out Warwick 1-0 on Oct. 16.

VOLLEYBALL

Warwick’s volleyball team beat Valley Central 28-26, 25-13, 26-24 on Oct. 18. Erin Smith had 10 kills, Adriana Nicosia had 15 digs and Kelly Nevins had five blocks and four kills. The Wildcats improved their record to 11-4 overall and 7-3 OCIAA with the victory.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Warwick’s girls swimming and diving team competed in the OCIAA championships on Oct. 21. Sydney McSweeney finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 25.94 seconds and was also third in the 100 freestyle (57.46).

Ciara Kelly placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.15) and was also fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:23.45). Both times were season bests.

 Maeve Wright finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a personal best time of 1:01.36 and was fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:44.74.).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

The boys cross country team traveled to Pine Bush Elementary School on Oct. 17 for a meet against Pine Bush and Monroe-Woodbury. Warwick defeated Pine Bush 18-42 but lost to M-W 15-50.

The Wildcats were led by junior Collin Freet in 19:15, freshman RJ Dovico (19:22), and sophomore Jake Tannar in 19:24.

GIRLS TENNIS

Warwick’s Alexandra Krasinska reached the finals of the Section 9 Girls Tennis Championships before losing to Goshen’s Norah Staunton 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Krasinska won each of her first three tournament matches in straight sets.
