A Column from the Desk of Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark)
Fall in the Hudson Valley is simply enchanting. While the Northeastern U.S. offers its fair share of seasonal splendor, the uniquely captivating beauty and serenity that envelop our region stands apart. The leaves burst into a kaleidoscope of colors, the crisp autumn air prompts us to dig out our coziest sweaters and savor our coffee a tad warmer, and life springs back to action after the leisurely pace of summer. And let’s not forget the return of football season! Yet, what I truly admire about our local communities during this season is the array of events they organize, allowing us to continue relishing in the treasures our area has to offer. One event that deserves your attention is the Fall Museum Village in the Town of Monroe, orchestrated by the Hudson Valley Farm and Flea Organization. This dedicated team brings together the cream of the crop from the Hudson Valley – artisans, collectors, farmers, chefs, and distillers – to offer an eclectic selection of homemade, handcrafted delights for our community’s enjoyment. The venue is just as captivating, nestled within a 19th-century village that still boasts a working general store, blacksmith shop, and schoolhouse for you to explore. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 7, as this event promises a truly magical experience. But that’s not all! Tuxedo’s Fall Festival at Murphy Park promises another day of family fun, complete with myriad activities and delectable food offerings. I relish attending such gatherings because it’s during these moments that our community truly comes alive. I’ve had some of the warmest encounters with neighbors and fellow residents, all thanks to the pleasant fall weather and the vibrant atmosphere. Trust me, it’s an event well worth your time, and it’s happening on Saturday, October 21. Another event that’s always a good time is the Warwick Applefest. Taking place October 1, over 150 vendors with some of the best craft goods and food will be available to experience. There will also be four stages with live music, and the ever-exciting Apple Pie Baking and Eating Contests! And, of course, we have Greenwood Lake’s Oktoberfest, a fun and active weekend filled with axe throwing, stein holding, log sawing, and more traditional activities and competitions. All winners are promised a prize for their success. But there will also be events not centered around athletics, such as costume contests and several food vendors to enjoy. It’ll be a great time on October 15 and 16, so consider stopping by! Across the Hudson Valley, from Orange County to Rockland County, towns are abuzz with various fall events. I encourage all of you to hop online and explore what your local Chamber of Commerce has lined up. Many of these events are free to attend, offering a fantastic opportunity to step outside and bask in the blessings of this season. I’ll be attending many of these functions myself, so say hi if you see me! And remember to embrace the beauty of fall, have a blast, and most importantly, stay safe!
