Mulcahy recognized for his dedication to a variety of activities and events in the Village of Greenwood Lake community

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has named Thomas Mulcahy of Greenwood Lake as March’s Citizen of the Month Award recipient.

Mulcahy was recognized for his dedication to a variety of important activities and events in the Greenwood Lake community, as well as his pride in being an Irish American. Mulcahy, a native of Meelin, a small village in Rockchapel County Cork, Ireland, will serve as the Grand Marshal at the 45th annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick’s Parade on Sunday, March 13th in  Greenwood Lake.

“March is Irish-American Heritage Month, which is the perfect time to recognize Tom, who is proud of his Irish roots and cares deeply about Greenwood Lake,” Neuhaus said. “If there is an event taking place in Greenwood Lake, Thomas is likely an integral part of it, or attached to it in some way. He cares that much about the Village and its residents, especially the veteran’s community. His hard work and generosity are appreciated by many and should be recognized.” Mulcahy emigrated to the Greenwood Lake area from Ireland in 1969 at the age of 19 and later lived in the Bronx and Rockland County. He remained closely connected to the Village and returned to Greenwood Lake nine years ago. Mulcahy has been a  member of the Greenwood Lake Gaelic Cultural Society since its inception and was honored as Celt of the Year in 1986.

Mulcahy has been a member of American Legion Arthur Finnegan Post 1443 for 48 years and served as its Commander from 2019-2021. He is a member of Holy Rosary parish in Greenwood Lake where he serves as an usher and is also a well-known deejay, who has performed at a variety of fundraisers and events. Mulcahy and his brothers, Pat, and Denis, helped start Project Children in 1975.
