At their monthly meeting on Wed., May 5, the Village of Florida Board of Trustees took time to honor Madelyn Folino after she announced her upcoming retirement from Director of the Village’s library.
Village Mayor Daniel Harter, Jr. led the tribute with a motion to the board to designate Mon., May 31, as Madelyn Folino Day, her last day as Director following 23 years of service to the Village.
Harter noted that at the beginning of Folino’s tenure the library was housed inside a trailer and is now located in its own building. She has also led several notable projects and promoted the arts via the library’s storytelling festivals and poetry café sessions. Folino brought additional services to the Village through the Little Free Library campaign and the award-winning Door-to-Door campaign in 2017, which expanded the means of what the library could do for the community.
Folino’s legacy will be a part of Village history for years to come as a keeper of storytelling in the Village of Florida. The distinction of receiving a day in her honor is one that has only been bestowed on someone twice in Harter’s tenure as Mayor.
Public Hearing on June 2
The Village will hold a public hearing on Wed., June 2, to consider the purchase of new trash bins for all Village residents.
The trash bin topic has generated a lot of buzz around the Village, as it will impact all residents. The public hearing will be an opportunity for any village resident to make their voices heard regarding the matter.
