Mayor Harter: Village Water Plant Upgrades

Local News News & Updates

Hello Florida,

I’m sure many of you are aware either through Facebook or an automated phone call the village water plant is upgrading its SCADA system. This upgrade is an important step forward in bringing our water plant into compliance. The SCADA system is essentially the “brain” of the plant and our original was over 25 years old, obsolete, and damaged. This new system along with the JCO staff that operate the plant adds to the list of improvements that we have done as your village board to bring our aging water treatment plant into the future.

I’d also like to let everyone know that our Director of the Florida Public Library, Madelyn Folino is retiring this month after 23 years of service. Madelyn has been instrumental in the growth and prosperity of the library, taking it from a little trailer that I remember as a child to the building it resides in today. Her dedication to the community and its children is shown through the many programs and activities that you can utilize through our library. Being a founder of the Black Dirt Storytelling Guild, a keeper of the fire in the great tradition of storytelling, helping create the library of things program and of course all the beautiful plants that surround the library Madelyn has cared for while serving as Director. These are just a few of the many things that Madelyn has done for the community over the years and her impact on the Village of Florida will be remembered for many years to come. Enjoy your retirement and thank you Madelyn for all that you have done for the Village of Florida and its residents!
