Hello Florida,
I wanted to start this week’s Mayor’s column with addressing the condition of NYS Route 94 going through our Village and towards Chester. We have received notice from the NYS Dept. of Transportation that we are scheduled for repaving in 2023. This is great news but doesn’t solve the current situation of potholes that plagues this stretch of road. I have spoken with management in NYSDOT, our Assemblyman and Senator about your concerns and need for immediate repairs and they are doing what they can to get this road patched as soon as possible.
New York State operates on statistics, this is how they target dispatching employees to maintain roads and that’s where we all need to come together and let them know that we want this done now. Please call them at 1-800-POTHOLE (1-800-768-4653) or contact our regional engineer in charge of maintenance at 845-437-3332 and notify them of what the conditions are here in the Village of Florida’s portion of Rt. 94. The old saying “the squeaky wheel gets the oil” applies here and if we all speak up and let them know we will get action from the transportation department.
The Florida Fire Department is looking for new members to join their organization. No experience is required to start and you must be 16 or older. Interior or exterior firefighter, fire police and fire apparatus operator are some of the positions they are looking to fill.
We have a great fire department here in the Village that does so much for the community not just fighting fires but hosting and running many community-based functions that we have all attended and enjoyed. This is a great way to give back and serve your community and be part of something larger than yourself. If interested please email recruitfloridany@gmail.com with your contact information.
