The Village of Florida Board of Trustees is looking into replacing the garbage and recycling bins throughout the Village. At the Village Board meeting on Wed., Apr. 7, Mayor Daniel Harter Jr. brought up the previously discussed issue as a good investment for the Village.
The new garbage and recycling bins will be 95 gallons. A few smaller sized cans of 55 gallons, for seniors, will additionally be ordered. The state bid will be approximately $125,000.
Mayor Harter said that there have been many issues with sanitation cans falling over and spewing garbage onto Village streets as well as additional safety issues for Department of Public Works (DPW) employees dealing with garbage and recycling pick up.
The new cans match with the lifts on the garbage trucks and will make the process much easier for the DPW employees. The bid will be voted on at next month’s meeting.
Jayne St. Bridge
The Town of Warwick has applied for a New York State Bridge grant to fix the Jayne Street Bridge, which has been closed with issues for an extended period of time. The grant application is the first step towards progress on the project in a considerable amount of time.
New Village Engineer
Mayor Harter appointed H2M Architects and Engineers as the new Village Engineer to replace Fusco Engineering.
