American Jobs Act is the Right Solution for Climate Change

Letters to the Editor News & Updates

Editor,

This year there is much reason to hope for those of us who understand the existential threat climate change poses to our country.  President Biden’s American Jobs Act (AJA), the next major proposal of his administration, addresses many of these problems in ways that will improve quality of life, leave a cleaner environment to our grandchildren and create good paying jobs in the process.

According to the Center for Strategic and International studies, roughly 56% of the total package proposed would address these issues.  Among other things, the AJA would increase the percentage of renewable energy sources in our electric grid infrastructure, provide substantial financial incentives to private citizens to purchase electric vehicles while converting the government’s fleet of vehicles to electric, increase funding for climate change research and development, and create affordable/energy efficient housing.

Of course, these things cost money! People should not be distracted by inflammatory rhetoric about cost when decades of neglected infrastructure and climate change denial are the real culprits.  The AJA is the right solution at the right time!
