Mayor Harter: Remembering Rafael Muriel

Local News News & Updates

The Village recently lost a great contributor to Florida, Mr. Rafael Muriel. He dedicated over 15 years of service to the community being the top security guard at S.S. Seward Institute. He was a well-known and friendly face when you entered the school. Students and staff alike would always speak of his warmth and kindness. His tough love and no-nonsense attitude while performing his duties in Seward led to many students respecting him over the years. Our deepest sympathies go out to his friends and family during this time. He will be greatly missed by the Spartan community.

The Rafael “Ralphie” Muriel Kindness Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up in his honor. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating, college bound or trade school S.S. Seward senior who has personified the spirit of Mr. Muriel through acts of kindness and unselfish giving.

If you would like to donate to the scholarship in his honor, please go to GoFundme.com and search for The Rafael Memorial Scholarship Fund.
