The Warwick Town Board and Greenwood Lake Village Board have been in talks for many years about transferring management and “lease rights” of the Thomas Morahan Waterfront Park and Greenwood Lake Beach property from the Town of Warwick to the Village of Greenwood Lake.
In the coming weeks, Supervisor Michael Sweeton and I intend to execute an intermunicipal agreement to make the transfer official. The Town of Warwick will still own the property, which was purchased many years ago with funds from P.D.R. (a land preservation fund), and the Village of Greenwood Lake will manage, oversee and operate the beach and park. The Village will continue to ensure town residents are offered the same services at the same price as Village residents at the park.
We expect to continue a model favoring town resident access to the beach and limiting non-residents so those who live and pay taxes in our community continue to have priority access. Hotels, Air BNBs, traditional Bed & Breakfasts and similar will be considered “residents” and will be offered resident access to the park like previous years.
There will be more announcements and details in the next month regarding the beach and park property. We are very excited about this opportunity and want to thank the Town of Warwick for their continued investments in the Village and longstanding partnership with Village government.
