Barzack Removed from Village of Florida Board of Trustees

News & Updates

By A.J. Arias

Village of Florida Mayor Daniel Harter, Jr. removed Trustee John Barzack from the Village Board of Trustees citing multiple violations which constituted the removal including the fact that Barzack no longer lived in the jurisdiction and that he had missed three consecutive meetings without excuse or notice. The move was made at the regular Board meeting on Wed., Dec. 2. The violations are both listed in the Village’s by-laws as grounds for removal. Barzack’s last appearance at a regular meeting or work session was in September.

Howard Replaces Barzack

Harter replaced Barzack with appointee Shanna Howard. Howard was sworn into the Village Board the following day once she was able to give her oath in person. Howard’s term will expire on March 31, 2021. Both Barzack and former trustee Brian Slattery’s seat will be up for election in March.

Slattery resigned from his position in October and was replaced by another Harter appointee, Alyssa Werner-Jahrling.

Happy Holidays from the Board

Mayor Hater and the rest of the Village Board wished all of their constituents Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. They sent their best wishes to all and thanked everyone involved in the Village Holiday ceremonies including the menorah and tree lightings. They look forward to continue working for the Village in the New Year.

Next Meeting

The Next Meeting of the Village of Florida Board of Trustees will be held on Wed., Jan, 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall as well as on Zoom. Visit the Village’s Facebook page for information about the meeting.
