WTBQ’s 5th Annual Toys for Military Tots Drive is a Huge Success

News & Updates

The generosity of those who contributed in the spirit of the holidays is shining brightly at WTBQ Radio with over $45,000 worth of new toys for WTBQ’s 5th Annual Toys for Military Tots drive for 2020. There was not an empty space in the Warwick radio station, every room from floor to ceiling was filled with toys for children of the military in Orange County. The donated toys are being gifted to the children of those who have served and are serving.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus sparked this drive years ago and it has taken on a life of its own by gifting these toys to children of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and children of military members stationed or deployed from Stewart Air Force Base – all in Orange County.

“WTBQ wants to thank all the local businesses and residents who so generously contributed to this year’s bounty. If there is an upside to the effects of this pandemic, this toy drive is at the top of the list. As my grandfather always said, ‘Out of every bad, good comes.’ This year the call to service has resonated throughout the County and for those who donated to the children of the DAV and Stewart Air Force Base soldiers and airmen and women, those who have served and are serving to protect all of us and our families, we simply say – thank you,” said WTBQ Station Manager Taylor Sterling.

“During this season, our service members and their families are in need of bringing the holiday spirit to their little ones. These men and women gave and are still giving for our peace so we may enjoy the holidays with our families,” said Sterling. “How do we say thanks to all who donated…by simply sharing the stories of the children on Christmas morning. We will have a WTBQ special with stories of Christmas morning 2020.”

Pete and Laura Rollins who work tirelessly every day, to assist members of the DAV and their families, and MSgt, Sara Pastorello, Director of Communications at Stewart Air Force Base, will be distributing the toys to the children of the military and will share all the gratitude from their parents on Christmas morning as their children open gifts they never imagined receiving.

The list of the businesses who contributed will be posted on Facebook at WTBQ AM/FM as it is way too long, starting with the major contributors, The Nam Knights and President, Pat Rooney, Supervisor of the Town of Monroe, Tony Cardone, newly elected State Senator Mike Martucci, Orange Bank and Trust, Sam’s Meat Warehouse, Repair IT, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, and many more.

“Please take a moment out of your lives to say thanks to all those who contributed and all those who generously donated the toys. A simple gesture of gratitude goes a long way,” said Sterling. “Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. God Bless us one and all!”
