COVID-19 positive cases are on the rise as our weather gets cooler and we are forced to more indoor activities. The good news is we have learned so much about who is most vulnerable, how to more effectively treat this disease, things we can do to minimize our exposure and that promising vaccines are close at hand. What we also have learned is that there are many who have contracted the virus but show little or no symptoms yet they can still easily spread it. This underscores the importance of always wearing your mask, washing your hands and staying home when feeling ill. Avoid large, indoor gatherings and be smart. I also want to remind residents that businesses, especially ones that have licenses issued by NYS, face serious fines and loss of licenses if we fail to abide by the mask wearing mandate here in NY. Let’s not put our local businesses and our neighbors at risk. We will defeat this disease if we all do our part.
Governor Cuomo has issued new restrictions. No indoor dining after 10 p.m. except takeout can continue past ten o’clock. He has also prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people in private homes. This is aimed at discouraging parties that seem to be spreader events. For more information on the executive orders visit, https://www.governor.ny.gov/executiveorders.
The renovations of the original farm house on the site of the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility have been completed and has been leased to the Orange County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) to operate as an accelerator designed to launch new start-up businesses. This will be a launching pad for new businesses that can, as they grow, launch into other locations within our town providing jobs and tax revenues. I want to thank the many local subcontractors who did a fantastic job in saving this very historic building.
