Editor,
I encourage everyone who can, to vote during NYS’s early voting period, Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. Since times for voting are spread out over a longer period, lines will probably be short and you won’t encounter many people. You may vote early at any voting location. You can find times and locations at https://www.orangecountygov.com.
Voting in person is important, because this is likely to be a disputed election. President Trump has sown doubt on the entire election process and intends to challenge results if he does not win. Because of the coronavirus, some people are choosing to vote by absentee ballot, a process that’s proven safe and secure. However, absentee ballots are not counted until seven days after the election. This will lead to a week of uncertainty and may feed into conspiracy theories. Therefore, if you can, vote early, in person.
It’s unfortunate that so much misinformation has been spread about voting. Let’s do whatever possible to make this election secure. Please vote, whichever method you choose.
