Supervisor Sweeton: Halloween Guidelines

News & Updates

The Orange County Department of Health has issued guidelines in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic which is still with us. Costume masks are not a substitute for the cloth masks necessary to prevent the spread of COVID. You can however be creative while incorporating a proper mask into your Halloween costume. Rather than neighborhood hopping as in years past stick close to home, keep six feet from fellow trick or treaters, wear your mask, avoid touching your eyes, nose or face. Carry hand sanitizer and wash your hands when returning home and before enjoying your candy. All of these commonsense things will keep your kids safe in this unique Halloween celebration.

A Halloween curfew in the Town of Warwick against congregating and loitering by those under 18 years of age or younger begins at 8 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 30 to 6 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 31. It continues Oct. 31 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sun., Nov. 1.  This is to ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy Trick or Treating in a safe manner.

There is a newly installed speed sign near the Warwick High School to remind drivers to slow down. Parents picking up or dropping off students also need to abide by all traffic laws as it only takes a second for someone in a hurry to cause a tragedy.

A panel discussion required by Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203 (See governor.ny.gov/executiveorders), requiring a review of the police department’s policies, practices and procedures was held on Oct. 26, and was viewable via the Town of Warwick Facebook page.  A plan must then be prepared by the chief of police and myself, considering input offered by the public, and then adopted by the Town Board by Apr. 1, 2021. Questions submitted via the Facebook viewing and/or submitted via email will be documented as part of the review.

Questions from the public can still be submitted to my office either via email to msweeton@townofwarwick.org or can be mailed to Supervisor’s Office, Town of Warwick, 132 Kings Highway, Warwick, NY 10990.

A Public Hearing to consider the 2021 Town and Special Districts Budget will be held at 7 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall.
