Formica Receives WV Gardener’s Scholarship

Warwick Valley High School 2020 graduate Alicyn Formica was the recipient of the 2020 Warwick Valley Gardener’s $1000 Scholarship for her academic efforts and plans to pursue a career in environmental studies with a focus on conservation and sustainability.  

Ms. Formica was a member of the high school’s Environmental Club, National Honor Society, Meistersingers, Youth in Government, Math Team, Mu Alpha Theta, Homecoming, French Club, and Empty Bowls Club. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts of Greenwood Lake, Warwick Community Kitchen, and taught Vacation Bible School.  Ms. Formica achieved a weighted average of 98.98 and is currently a freshman at Syracuse University.  

Warwick Valley Gardeners are volunteers who in addition to awarding an annual horticulture/environmental science scholarship, also maintain nine Community Gardens, provide garden therapy for local long-term care residents throughout the year, donate reading material on gardening related subjects to three local libraries and provide holiday décor at Railroad Green each year.
