The Albert Wisner Public Library presents Virtual Fall Programs for preschoolers, school age children and families on the library website: www.albertwisnerlibrary.org. The programs include:
Mother Goose (0-18 months, Wednesdays), Toddler Time (18-36 months, Mondays), Learn and Play (3-5 yrs, Tuesdays), Music with Mr. Matt (6-36 mons, Thursdays), Family Cooking-Recipes From Your Favorite Books (parent and child, Fridays), Feltboard Fridays (2-5 yrs., Fridays), Mind Matters for Kids (preschool, Thursdays). There is no need to register for the virtual programs listed above.
Preschool Spanish Class (3-5 yrs.) – Learn basic conversational Spanish with Joyce Schenkman. Materials will be distributed the week before each class. Videos released on Oct. 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, and 9. Register for this virtual program beginning Sept. 12.
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Mr. Matt. Sing songs in Spanish and learn about and hear Hispanic instruments. Stop by the library the week before and pick up a Take-and-Make craft for this celebration. Video will be released on Sept. 23. No registration needed to view this video.
Fun with STEM, Math for Parent & Child – Explore shapes, money, fractals, patterns and more. Register to reserve weekly supplies, then watch the video and explore the concepts with your child. Videos released on Oct 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4, 11 for K-3rd grade. Register for this virtual program beginning Sept. 12.
Fairy Forts & Gnome Homes – Create a secret hideaway in your backyard with your family! Supplies from include cardboard, clay and string. Pick up bag a week prior to the video release. A suggested list of materials for the project will be posted, too. Reserve supplies then watch our video on Sat., Oct. 3. Register for this program beginning Sept. 12.
Halloween Take-and-Make – Register starting Sept. 12 to reserve a Halloween craft project to do with your family. Video released on Sat., Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
Interactive Chalk Board – Visit for a 15-minute slot to hop, skip and jump your way through the chalkboard maze in the library parking lot. Prizes for completing the maze on Sat., Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Rain date: Oct. 24.
Pumpkin Look & Find – Find 14 hidden pumpkins on the library grounds. Mark their locations on a map (found on the curbside cart) then email maps to warkids@rcls.org or drop off in the cart to win a prize from Oct. 3 to 31.
Trick-or-Treat Saturday on Oct. 31 – Stop by the children’s room patio for a photo op with Peanuts and the Great Pumpkin. Wear costume and get a bag of goodies. Don’t forget “masks” and social distancing from 10 a.m. to 12 noon for ages 2-5 yrs. only.
Read to the Dog – Branson will be available this fall for children to read to on Zoom. After registering the Library will notify participants with a link for a 10 minute slot. Dates available are Oct. 6, Oct. 20 and Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m.
The Amazing Chase – Team up with your family and race against other families to complete missions, earn points and get a trophy. An interactive community game hosted on a private Facebook page. Register one person per family/team for Fri., Oct 9 at 9 a.m. and Sat., Oct. 10 at 4:30 p.m.
Fall Family Fun Walk – Start at the library, decorate a walking stick, create a nature journal, then walk the loop in Veteran’s Memorial Park. Bring your own walking stick, a snack and water bottle. An outside activity, wear mask and practice social distancing on Sat., Nov 7 at 11 a.m. (Rain date: Nov. 14)
Printmaking with Foam Board & Paint with Miss Judy – Make a line drawing on foam board by pressing with a pencil or pen into the board. Then, roll some paint onto the raised areas and print it. The Library will supply the foam board, roller and paper, you supply the paint. Register to reserve your supplies, then watch our video on Nov. 14.
Write a Letter to a Librarian – The Library staff misses seeing everyone and would love to get your letter. Your child can write a few sentences, their name, a drawing or anything age appropriate in their letter. Drop it in our mailbox outside the library or mail it in. We’ll write back and send some stickers or tattoos!
Virtual Tweens Tuesdays
Register beginning Sept. 12 for ages 9-12. Supplies will be available the week before, video released on the date and available for viewing anytime.
Tues. Oct 6: Simple Paper Puppets on a Stick – Using patterns create a puppet. Characters: Beyonce, Greta Thunberg, Keith Haring, Ada Lovelace, Michael Jordan, Nelson Mandela and Dorthea Lang. 12″ tall. Register to reserve supplies then watch the video.
Tues. Oct. 13: Online Pictionary – Guess what your opponent is drawing then switch places to see who can guess what you drew. Zoom link from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Tues. Oct 20: Button Cards – Make some unique cards using our decorated buttons, glue, cut paper and more. Register to reserve your supplies then watch the video.
Tues. Oct. 27: Haunted House Goes Dark –Digital Breakout! Can you find the key to turn on the lights before the crowds arrive at your haunted house? Zoom link from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Tues. Nov. 3: Online Scattergories – Can you name a breakfast cereal, sport song, state capitol and book that start with the letter W? Play Scattergories with us to see who can fill in the most blanks in two minutes. Zoom link from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Tues. Nov. 10: Safety Pin Jewelry – Make a simple piece of jewelry using safety pins and beads. Register to reserve your supplies then watch the video.
