Supervisor Sweeton: Farewell UPS Employee Tom Dempsey

News & Updates

This past week we said farewell to a fixture, an icon in our Town, Tom Dempsey. Tom was that guy in the brown UPS uniform who you saw day in, day out, delivering packages throughout the Village of Warwick. Always with a smile, often a friendly hello, no matter how busy or what the weather you could always count on Tommy. As happens to many of us, Tom had a few more aches and pains as the years went on, but it never slowed him up or kept him from making his deliveries. That’s because Tom wasn’t afraid of hard work and was committed to doing the best job he could. Tom was and is an inspiration to all of us and he will be missed, but he has earned his retirement and time to enjoy the things he hasn’t had time to do. Tom, thank you for your service these many years and for the many lives you touched.

If you haven’t visited our newly revamped website at www.townofwarwick.org I urge you to spend a few minutes exploring its many new features. I especially ask you to select the “residents” tab and click on the sign up for the emergency alerts service we provide. You will be directed to enter your name, address, phone number and email so we can notify you in times of emergencies or for service disruptions. This information never leaves the town’s control and is never used for anything but the stated purpose, namely, to keep you safe and informed during emergencies. We have also added a link to information on the Greenwood Lake Commission, a bi-state board, charged with monitoring and protecting the health of one of our most precious natural assets – Greenwood Lake.  There are many other great sources of information on the site and we thank Walling Road Technologies for this great product.

The Town Beach at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park continues to be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. for Warwick Town residents only (This, of course, includes Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick Village residents).  The beach area is limited to 50% occupancy, and the NYS as well as the Orange County Departments of Health have imposed strict guidelines that staff and beachgoers will need to follow, so your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. The beach is open through Labor Day so there is still time to discover the only public access beach on beautiful Greenwood Lake.  Call the Warwick Town Clerk at 986-1124 for more information.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Aug. 13, 2020, at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Highway, Warwick.
