Supervisor Sweeton: Continue to Have a Safe Summer

News & Updates

Looks to be another great summer week here in the Valley.  Time to get outdoors and enjoy our many parks, trails, water bodies, like Greenwood Lake and Wickham Lake, as well as the many farm markets throughout our Town.  Many area restaurants have embraced outdoor dining and certainly welcome your support, as do the other small businesses eager to serve.  Please just remember to wear your mask, if not for you then for others, social distance and make sure you clean your hands frequently.  We are slowly making our way back to a more normal life, so let’s not let our guard down now.

Slowly but surely Route 17A/94 is getting resurfaced.  Sometime this summer the NYS Department of Transportation will be resurfacing the road from Horse Hill Lane, where they stopped a year ago, to Van Duzer Place in the Village of Warwick.  As soon as we have a schedule, we will get it out to everyone.

We regret to announce that due to concerns and unknowns related to COVID-19, the Senior Citizen BBQ will not be held this year.  While this is very disappointing, as it is an event that our seniors look forward to each year, we do not want to endanger them in any way.  Fatalities due to COVID-19 fall heavily on the 65 years and older portion of our population, over 77% County-wide.  Our seniors and community have done a great job in staying safe, and we can’t stop now.  I want our senior citizens to know that we will hold the Town of Warwick/Warwick Valley Rotary BBQ once again next year in a bigger and better way, so mark your calendars!

The Town Beach at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Warwick Town residents only. This, of course, includes Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick Village residents.  The beach area is limited to 50% occupancy initially while the Town and Village monitor how beachgoers observe our social gathering regulations.  Season passes can be obtained from the Warwick Town Clerk by calling 986-1124.  The NYS and Orange County Departments of Health have imposed strict guidelines that staff and beachgoers will need to follow, so your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick.
