S.S. Seward Institute has named Alice Mazur as Valedictorian and Elizabeth Wesonga as Salutatorian of its high school Class of 2020.
Valedictorian Alice Mazur will be attending Binghamton University in Vestal, NY, to pursue a degree in biochemistry before continuing on to graduate school. Alice is vice-president of the National Honor Society, treasurer of the Student Council, president of the Spanish Club, captain of the swim team, and a member of Youth in Government.
During her junior and senior years, Alice participated in the MedAchieve program at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. Passionate about the medical arts, Alice was also part of Crystal Run’s Young Physicians program.
A proven leader throughout her high school career, Alice attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership conference and the Leaders for Change program at Mercy College. In addition, she seized valuable working experience as a lifeguard and a tutor throughout her high school years.
Salutatorian Elizabeth Wesonga will be attending Binghamton University with plans to major in applied mathematics and statistics. She will continue her education with the ultimate goal of becoming an actuary. Elizabeth is currently the president of the National Honor Society, the treasurer of the Spanish Club, and a member of Youth in Government.
During her junior and senior years of high school, she was part of the varsity volleyball team as a setter. Distinguished by her many talents and leadership skills, Elizabeth participated in a variety of fine arts performances at the New York Youth Convention, and served in her church’s United Youth group. She attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference, and took part in the 2019 American Legion Auxiliary Empire Girls State program.
Elizabeth’s work experience includes tutoring, and an internship at the Shoprite Corporate Office in Florida, NY.
