Florida Public Library Summer Programs

The Florida Public Library (FPL) is bringing the library to you this summer! All programs will be virtual, some live and some prerecorded, with craft programs offering free supplies to be picked up in advance. Programs can be accessed through Zoom, BlueJeans or Facebook. Mondays will feature Turtle Dance Music for all ages at 9 a.m. and Books & Beyond at 4 p.m. for grades K-2 on our Facebook page. On Tuesdays, Tween Club will be held at 4 p.m. for grades 3-5.  Beth “Miss Beth” Verblaauw has returned to FPL and will lead the Books & Beyond and Tween sessions. On Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Maria “Miss Maria” Martinez offers a Zoom Rhymetime for toddlers 12-35 months of age plus siblings and parents. Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. are reserved for a variety of adult programs, including Travel Tips, Imagine a Journey to Mars, Searching the Census for Ancestors, Rag Rug Class and Dungeons & Dragons Gamer’s Night. 

Eileen “Mrs. S”  Stelljes, returns to lead a Zoom Storytime for preschoolers on Thursdays at 2 p.m. and Miss Maria will reprise her toddler stories in a bilingual presentation for the children and parents of Florida ABCD Head Start at 7 p.m. Thursdays also feature programs on Shopping & Meal Planning Tips with Gina Knudsen from ShopRite; and Old Glory: A History of the American Flag with Kevin Woyce. Fridays will be devoted to programs for various ages, including adult book clubs; Campfire Storytelling with the Black Dirt Storytelling Guild; Summer Poetry Café; and Dungeons & Dragons for Teens and Tweens. More teen programs will be on Saturdays:  Imagine Your Hero; An Artemis Fowl trivia contest; virtual summer breakout room. On Sat., July 25, a special family program by Marcia the Moose will present “Frogs in Outer Space.” The library is closed on Sundays through Labor Day. 

Keeping track of summer reading will be online through READsquared.  Earn points for reading and completing activities while unlocking badges, games and fun activities. Visit the library’s website at www.floridapubliclibrary.org for complete details and to register.   

Curbside service is currently available at the library to pick up summer reading. Place holds on books and other materials using the library catalog, RCLS Gateway App., email fpl@rcls.org or call the library at ]651-7659.  Call us when you arrive and proceed to the curbside pick-up location at the back deck.  Hold your card up to the window and open your trunk.  Library staff bring your items out to you and put them in your trunk.
