Editor,
I am running for one of the open seats on the Greenwood Lake School Board. I have been a resident of Greenwood Lake for thirteen years. My husband and I moved here with our two children at the time from Queens. NY. It was a big adjustment, but we knew we made the right decision to raise our children in such a small, proud, close-knit community, with the biggest heart.
Our family grew from two children to four and I was fortunate enough to be able to be a stay at home parent for fourteen years. I recently went back to the work force part time. My oldest is a sophomore at Warwick Valley High School and my three other children are in the fourth, sixth, and seventh grades, at the Greenwood Lake Middle School.
I am actively involved in many organizations in this community. I am a Girl Scout leader for my daughter’s troops. I am a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 121 and Cub Scout pack 121, and I hold a position on the Greenwood Lake Little League Board.
If elected, my efforts as a school board member would center on serving all the children in the community. One child is no more important than any other. I will be responsive and receptive to parents, staff, students, and the community. I strongly believe that we have some of the best teachers and staff working with our children. I will do my best to ensure, while being fiscally responsible all the while, that teachers are provided with the tools and support they need to provide the best education and experience for our students. It is also important to me that the high school tuition and school tax increases will be minimal in these trying times as we continue to deal with the pandemic.
Distance learning and transitioning back to the classroom safely for all students will be my top priority in the next few months. I would be proud to serve on the Greenwood Lake School Board as a representative of our beautiful community. Best wishes to all Laker Families, be safe! Thank you for your support. Please send in your ballots before June 9.
