Celebrating its 45th year of service, Meals on Wheels of Warwick is still delivering meals, even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Meals on Wheels of Warwick is a non-profit, all volunteer organization delivering fresh weekday meals to elderly and homebound individuals. They service people in the Village of Warwick and many of the surrounding areas within the Town of Warwick.
Throughout these trying times, new procedures have been implemented at all stages of meal preparation and delivery, to ensure safety and uninterrupted delivery to clients, most of whom are at high risk from the virus. Over half of the 120 Meals on Wheels volunteers have been temporarily “furloughed” since the beginning of the pandemic, due to NYS age restrictions and/or health concerns.
The younger volunteers have stepped up and increased their hours of service, allowing the program to continue running smoothly. Special thanks to the administration and kitchen staff of Mt. Alverno, where the hot and cold meals are prepared each weekday.
