Mary Hope Lewis celebrated her birthday on Sun., May 24 by ringing ‘The Bells of Hope’ at the Old School Baptist Meeting House, located on High St. in Warwick. Hope, born at the Warwick Hospital around the corner on Forester Ave., has been quarantining at the family home on Maple Ave. with her son Christopher Ford and his family.
Her parents, Madison and Elizabeth Sanford Lewis, helped save the church from destruction in 1953. Hope’s younger sisters, Joan Jewett and Elizabeth McLean, are quarantining in Virginia and Maryland respectively and could not attend the family picnic held in Lewis Park immediately following the sonorous echoes of the church bells.
