The Village of Florida Board of Trustees passed a resolution on Wed., May 13, to furlough all non-police department and non-essential part-time employees who do not qualify for extended family leave effective Sun., Apr. 26.
The furloughs are a result of the Village’s unprecedented economic strain during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Village had provided at least two weeks paid sick leave to every employee unable to work due to the pandemic in accordance with the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
According to the resolution, the Village is not in a financial position to pay employees who are unable to work either on site or remotely. All employees will be restored to existing rates of pay at the end of NY Pause for the Mid-Hudson region.
