Over the past two months, the Village of Greenwood Lake has revived the familiar sound of our fire siren. The difference, however, is the siren rings each night at 7 p.m. not to signify our local fire department’s response to a fire call, but to signify the sacrifices made, challenges endured and a call to attention to the unsung heroes among us – our first responders and healthcare workers fighting to keep us all safe.
The sound you hear each night is to remind us to keep them in our thoughts and prayers, and to show them a token of our appreciation. The siren is temporarily turned on by hand each night by Ed Bilello but will soon have a permanent setting to sound automatically and will likely continue as long as I have a say.
