Story by Janmarie Foschini
The GWL Ice Cream Shack, located at 1146 Route 17A in Greenwood Lake, recently opened up shop for the 2020 season. This marks the fourth year for the local establishment. Although this year’s opening was not the usual grand start to the season due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Ice Cream Shack is delighted to be open for business.
Owners Jeanmarie Valentin and Ron Coffiel have opened their ice cream business seven days a week from 12 noon to 9 p.m., cash only. Until further notice, all orders are to go; seating is currently not available and the use of the recreational area is prohibited. The employees are following the safety guidelines, practicing precautions such as wearing gloves and masks. There is also signage requesting customers stand six feet apart while waiting in line as well as abiding by the tape markers to remain in a safe distance between customers.
“We are so happy to be open for our fourth season. Although this year is different, we are so excited to see our customers who have become friends visit the Ice Cream Shack,” said the owners, Jeanmarie Valentin and Ron Coffiel. “We are grateful for the support from our community and we wish everyone well during this time.”
Greenwood Lake resident Kim Gjersten, who visited the Ice Cream Shack on more than one occasion said, “We are so happy the Ice Cream Shack is open. It’s been a great treat for my family. My son, Ryan recently celebrated his birthday and they gave him a special ice cream sundae with a happy birthday sign. We are happy to support them.”
The shack currently offers a variety of ice cream, toppings, shakes, sundaes, nachos, and hot dogs. For more information call 595-1668.
